After 5 repairmen from the company who installed my AC did nothing to fix my AC which was leaking into my ceilings, the restoration company suggested I call 3B. It was not an easy fix, but Al found and repaired the problems. It required a few service calls to complete, but my AC is now working as it should! Al came early and stayed late, returned to check on things over the weekend and made sure all was working well. The cost, which could have been quite high, was very reasonable. He was much more knowledgeable than the company repairmen from whom I originally bought the unit. It is his own company, and he really does know what he’s doing!! I appreciated his honesty and his work ethic.

Who owns 3B Heating & Air?

3B Heating & Air is a family-owned company founded in 2025 by brothers Ray, Al, and Frank in Wesley Chapel, Florida. When you call, you work directly with the owners, who put their name on every job and personally answer for it.

Is 3B Heating & Air licensed?

Yes. 3B Heating & Air operates under Florida Certified Mechanical Contractor license CMC1251785, issued by the Florida DBPR Construction Industry Licensing Board. Our team also holds EPA Section 608 Universal certification for refrigerant handling. You can verify our license at myfloridalicense.com.

How much experience does your team have?

Our owners bring 20+ years of combined experience across residential and light commercial systems. Co-owner Fayek ‘Frank’ Zaman is also a Mechanical Engineering graduate of the University of South Florida, which helps our team accurately diagnose complex mechanical problems.

What areas do you serve?

AC Repair FAQs

What are the most common signs my AC needs repair?

Common warning signs include warm air from the vents, weak airflow, ice on the refrigerant lines or coil, water leaking around the indoor unit, unusual noises, and a system that turns on and off frequently. Rising electric bills without a change in use can also point to a developing problem.

Why is my AC freezing up?

A frozen coil usually results from restricted airflow or low refrigerant. A dirty filter, blocked return vent, failing blower motor, or refrigerant leak can all cause it. Turn the system off to let the ice melt, then call us. Running a frozen system can damage the compressor.

Why is water leaking from my indoor unit?

Most leaks come from a clogged condensate drain line, which is very common in Florida's humidity. A cracked drain pan or a thawing frozen coil can also cause water around the air handler. 3B Heating & Air clears drain lines and repairs the source so the leak does not return.

Why does my AC run all day but never cool the house?

A system that runs constantly without reaching the set temperature may have a dirty condenser coil, low refrigerant, a failing capacitor, leaky ductwork, or an undersized unit. In peak Florida heat, a clogged filter alone can cause it. 3B Heating & Air tests each component to find the real cause before recommending a fix.

How much does an AC repair cost?

Repair costs depend on the part and labor involved. Our diagnostic fee is $79, and we waive it when you approve the repair. After diagnosing the problem, we give you a flat-rate price before any work begins, so you always know the full cost upfront.

Should I repair or replace my AC?

We follow a repair-first approach. If a repair will extend your system's life at a reasonable cost, we recommend the repair. Replacement makes more sense when a system is older, needs a major component like a compressor, or keeps breaking down. We explain both options honestly.

AC Installation and Replacement FAQs

How much does a new AC system cost?

New residential systems typically range from $5,500 to $18,000+, depending on tonnage, efficiency rating, and installation requirements. We provide free estimates on new systems, and you receive a flat-rate quote before any work starts.

How do you size a new system?

We size each system to your home's cooling load, considering square footage, insulation, windows, and layout. A system that is too large short cycles and controls humidity poorly, while one that is too small runs constantly. Correct sizing is essential in Tampa Bay's humid climate.

How long does an AC installation take?

Most residential changeouts are completed in a single day. Larger projects or installations that require ductwork changes may take longer. We confirm the expected timeline when we provide your estimate.

Should I choose a higher-efficiency system?

Higher SEER2 ratings mean the system uses less electricity to deliver the same cooling. In Tampa Bay, where an AC runs most of the year, a higher-efficiency system can lower monthly energy costs. We explain the price difference and expected savings so you can choose the right balance for your budget.

What warranty comes with a new system?

Every new system includes a standard 10-year manufacturer parts warranty and a 1-year labor warranty from 3B Heating & Air. You can extend the labor warranty up to 10 years on request.

Do you pull permits for installations?

As a Florida Certified Mechanical Contractor, 3B Heating & Air can pull the permits required for system replacements and new installations, so your project meets local code requirements.

AC Maintenance and Comfort Membership FAQs

How often should my AC be serviced?

We recommend professional maintenance twice a year, in spring and fall. Florida systems run most of the year, so two visits help catch clogged drain lines, weak capacitors, and dirty coils before they cause a breakdown.

What is included in a maintenance visit?

Each visit includes drain line clearing, a refrigerant check, an electrical component inspection, a capacitor test against manufacturer specs, an air filter check, and an air handler and condenser inspection. Premier members also receive condenser coil washing and evaporator coil cleaning.

How much do your maintenance plans cost?

The Essential Plan costs $9 per month (about $108 per year) and includes 5% off repairs. The Premier Plan costs $15 per month (about $180 per year) and includes coil cleaning, priority scheduling, and 10% off repairs.

Can I cancel my maintenance plan?

Yes. Comfort Membership plans bill monthly and renew automatically, and you can cancel at any time with 30 days' written notice.

Does regular maintenance really make a difference?

Yes. Clean coils, clear drain lines, and healthy capacitors help your system run efficiently and reduce the chance of a breakdown during the hottest weeks of the year. Maintenance also gives our technicians the chance to catch small problems while they are still simple and inexpensive to fix.

How often should I change my air filter?

Most standard filters should be checked monthly and replaced every one to three months, depending on the filter type, pets, and household dust. A clogged filter restricts airflow, raises energy use, and can cause the coil to freeze.

Ductless Mini Split FAQs

What is a ductless mini split?

A ductless mini split is a heating and cooling system that connects an outdoor unit to one or more indoor wall or ceiling units through a small refrigerant line. It doesn't need ductwork, making it ideal for spaces a central system cannot reach.

Where do ductless systems work best?

Ductless mini splits work well for home additions, garages, converted rooms, sunrooms, and rooms that stay warmer than the rest of the house. 3B Heating & Air installs and services ductless systems for both homes and small commercial spaces.

Do ductless mini splits need maintenance?

Yes. Indoor heads collect dust, and their condensate lines can clog in Florida's humidity. Regularly cleaning the filters, coils, and drain lines keeps a ductless system quiet, efficient, and odor-free.

Can a mini split heat as well as cool?

Most ductless mini splits are heat pumps, so they provide both cooling and heating from the same system. They handle Florida's mild winters efficiently.

Zone Control System FAQs

What is a zone control system?

A zone control system divides your home into separate temperature areas, each with its own thermostat. Motorized dampers in the ductwork open and close to send conditioned air only where it is needed.

Is zoning worth it for my home?

Zoning helps most in two-story homes, homes with large open areas, and homes where some rooms are always hotter or cooler than others. It improves comfort and reduces wasted energy by cooling occupied rooms more and unused rooms less.

Can zoning be added to my existing system?

In many cases, yes. Zoning can often be added to existing ductwork with dampers and a zone control panel. We inspect your system first to confirm it is a good fit and explain what the installation involves.

Indoor Air Quality FAQs

Why is humidity such a problem in Tampa Bay homes?

Florida's high outdoor humidity can make indoor air feel sticky and encourage mold and mildew growth. An AC system removes some moisture, but an oversized system or a home with high moisture loads may need added dehumidification.

What indoor air quality products do you install?

3B Heating & Air installs and services air handlers, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, UV lights, and electronic filter boxes. We recommend products based on your home's specific air quality concerns, not a one-size-fits-all package.

Do I need a whole-home dehumidifier?

A whole-home dehumidifier helps when your home still feels damp with the AC running, when you notice musty odors, or when condensation forms on windows. It works with your HVAC system to remove extra moisture, improving comfort and letting you set the thermostat a little higher.

Do UV lights really help?

UV lights installed near the evaporator coil help limit mold and bacteria growth on the coil surface. This keeps the coil cleaner, which supports efficient operation and helps reduce musty odors.

Do you offer air duct cleaning?

Yes. Air duct cleaning removes built-up dust and debris from your ductwork. It can help when you notice excess dust, musty smells, or after renovation work in your home.

Heat Pump FAQs

How does a heat pump work?

A heat pump moves heat instead of creating it. In summer, it pulls heat out of your home and releases it outside. In winter, a reversing valve switches the flow so the system pulls heat from the outdoor air and brings it inside.

Is a heat pump a good choice in Florida?

Yes. Florida's mild winters let a heat pump heat efficiently for most of the cooler season, and the same system handles cooling all summer. Many Tampa Bay homes use heat pumps as their primary heating and cooling system.

Why is my heat pump blowing cold air in heating mode?

A heat pump may blow cooler air briefly during a defrost cycle, which is normal. If cold air continues, the cause may be a faulty reversing valve, low refrigerant, a thermostat setting, or failed auxiliary heat strips. 3B Heating & Air diagnoses the exact cause and quotes a flat-rate repair.

How long does a heat pump last?

With regular maintenance, many heat pumps provide reliable service for well over a decade. Because Florida heat pumps run in both seasons, twice-yearly maintenance is especially important for extending their life.

What is auxiliary or emergency heat?

Auxiliary heat uses electric heat strips to support your heat pump when it cannot keep up on its own, such as during a cold snap or a defrost cycle. Emergency heat runs the heat strips alone. Because heat strips use more electricity, frequent auxiliary heat use may signal a heat pump problem worth checking.

Furnace and Heat Strip FAQs

Do Florida homes need furnaces?

Many Tampa Bay homes rely on a heat pump or electric heat strips inside the air handler, while others use gas or electric furnaces. 3B Heating & Air installs, repairs, and maintains gas furnaces, electric furnaces, and heat strips.

Why does my heat smell like burning when I first turn it on?

A brief burning smell at the start of the season is usually dust burning off the heat strips or furnace components after months of sitting idle. If the smell lingers or smells electrical, turn the system off and call us right away.

Should my furnace be serviced if I rarely use it?

Yes. Furnaces and heat strips that sit idle through a long Florida summer benefit from a pre-season inspection. We check burners, electrical connections, and safety controls so the system runs safely when the first cold snap arrives.

Thermostat FAQs

Can you install a smart thermostat?

Yes. 3B Heating & Air installs programmable and smart thermostats. We confirm the thermostat is compatible with your HVAC system, install and configure it, and show you how to use its scheduling features.

How do I know if my thermostat is the problem?

Signs of a thermostat issue include a blank screen, a system that doesn't respond to setting changes, temperatures that don't match the setting, or short cycling. We test the thermostat and wiring to confirm whether the thermostat or the system is the source.

Where should a thermostat be placed?

A thermostat works best on an interior wall away from direct sunlight, supply vents, kitchens, and exterior doors. Poor placement can cause false readings and uneven comfort.

Boiler FAQs

Do you service boilers?

Yes. 3B Heating & Air repairs and maintains boiler systems for homes and light commercial properties that use them. Our service includes checking burners, controls, and safety components.

What maintenance does a boiler need?

A boiler benefits from an annual inspection of its burner, pressure and temperature controls, and safety devices. Regular service helps the system deliver steady heat and catch small problems before they turn into costly repairs.

Commercial HVAC FAQs

What size commercial systems do you service?

3B Heating & Air services light commercial HVAC systems up to 20 tons. This includes storefronts, doctors' offices, gas stations, and other small business properties across Pasco and Hillsborough County.

Do you replace commercial systems?

Yes. We repair, maintain, and replace light commercial equipment. We explain every finding to the owner or property manager and provide a flat-rate quote before work begins.

Do you work with property managers and real estate agents?

Yes. We help property managers, landlords, and real estate agents with repairs, maintenance, and system inspections for the properties they manage or sell.

Pricing, Financing, and Warranty FAQs

Do you charge by the hour?

No. 3B Heating & Air uses flat-rate pricing on every service. You approve the price before we start, and the price we quote is the price you pay, with no surprise charges.

Is there a fee to diagnose my system?

Our diagnostic fee is $79 for non-members and is waived when you approve the repair. Essential members pay $49, and Premier members pay $19, also waived with the repair.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes. Estimates for new system installations and replacements are free.

Do you price match?

Yes. We will beat any written quote from a licensed HVAC company. Just show us the quote when you book.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. 3B Heating & Air offers financing through Synchrony, FTL, and HFS. Available plans and terms depend on lender credit approval, and our team helps you compare your options.

Are there any current discounts?

We offer a seasonal discount of 10% on all services, including new systems, from November through February. Comfort Membership members also receive 5% or 10% off repairs year-round.

Is there still a federal tax credit for heat pumps?

The federal Section 25C credit ended for equipment installed after December 31, 2025. Local utility rebates may still apply to qualifying high-efficiency equipment, and we can help you check which programs apply to your address.

Scheduling and Emergency Service FAQs

How quickly can you get to my home?

We typically schedule regular service within 24 to 48 hours and emergency service within 24 hours, depending on availability. We'll share your technician's arrival time before the visit.

Do you offer same-day service?

We do our best to reach customers quickly, but same-day service depends on availability and is not guaranteed. For urgent problems, call us directly rather than using the online form.

What counts as an HVAC emergency?

A complete loss of cooling during Florida heat, especially in a home with young children, older adults, pets, or medical needs, is an emergency. Burning smells, electrical issues, or water leaking near electrical components also need prompt attention.

What should I do while I wait for a technician?

If your AC is frozen or making unusual noises, turn it off at the thermostat to prevent further damage. Check that your air filter isn't clogged and that your breaker hasn't tripped. Keep blinds closed and use fans to stay cool until we arrive.
